A brief pre-Smile biography of Roger Meddows Taylor
Born in Truro, Roger Meddows Taylor exhibited a keen passion and desire for music from an early age. His first learned to play the ukulele, and eventually the guitar. However he eventually chose the drums as his main instrument.
While living in Truro, Taylor was a member of a number of musical outfits. It was with Johnny Quale and the Reaction - a band simply soon to be known as The Reaction - where he would develop and foster his musical abilities.
In the summer of 1967 Roger came to England from Truro, enrolling in London Hospital's Medical School, and began a degree in Dentistry in October of that year.
When Smile formed in 1968, he had already completed the first part of his dentistry degree. Rather than continue with his studies, the young musician opted instead to spend the next year developing his dreams and ambitions with his new band.
